Recording Software

Anyone got any leads for software that will record streaming mp3s? For example I have an XM radio subscription and I'd like to record it when I play it online through my puter.

Wave/Recording studio...

Well, I know that my older Creative Sound Blaster came with a wave studio that would allow you several recording options, including "record what I hear". I did this a couple of times and then converted the wave file to MP3 with Music Match Jukebox. Several years ago, I found a share-ware recording studio on tucows.com. I was able to record things that were played with that as well.

Audacity will probably do

Audacity will probably do that. I haven't tried it but it has an assload of features and it is free software. There is also an mp3 plugin for converting/editing files and exporting to mp3 format.

Technically speaking, any

Technically speaking, any sound coming out of your sound card can be recorded (except in Vista - damn DRM!).

Some sound blasters come with a wav mapper that basically loops output back to input. You could then map the wav output to line input and record it in any sound recording s/w (i.e., Audigy).

If it's a built in sound card, I doubt the wav mapper option would be available and you'd have to Google for some 'streaming mp3 ripping' software.

Thanks Tripper, Audacity

Thanks Tripper, Audacity does it, just tried. Now I have to find a way to monitor it and cut the songs automatically....
