The big ping is due to the first (last) hop. That is, from my antenna to the base station for my wireless ISP. It ain't pretty, but it is a hell of a lot better than dialup.

Though my ISP just asked me to reset my router to dynamic IP since they are getting a new T1, so the routing may change soon. My guess is that they are dropping QWEST as their provider. I don't know who they are going with instead.
