I belong to a the BeerAdvocate.com which is a great place to check out various beers. They allow reviews and so forth as well as other net-social activities and beer fest listings. I thought I would post my reviews here because I know many of my fellow DSS members are avid beer drinkers and they may want to investigate some new territory in the way of fermented malt beverages.

Weyerbacher is a company I have come to love in the past year or so. They have an excellent selection of brews each with their own unique characters. The brewery is based out of Easton, Pa. and has been around since 1995. I won't delve into the history of the company however if you are interested, check their site out. How could you not love a brewery that has beers as appropriately named as these:

Black Hole
Insanity
Hops Infusion
Merry Monks (One of my favorite beers ever...)
Blithering Idiot (11.1% ABV)
QUAD (11.8% ABV)

So, on to their hefeweizen. If you are remotely familiar with the properties of various beer styles, you know that a hefeweizen is a wheat beer. Most of you may be familiar with Blue Moon which is a wheat beer. Weyerbacher's hefe is not as fruity as a lot of them but still holds a lot of the attributes a good wheat beer carries.

The smell is somewhat fruity however spoiled by a faint odor of day-old Budweiser.

The pour is much like a typical American beer. Nothing too fancy, the head is moderate with larger bubbles that quickly dissipate.

The color is light and cloudy, almost like lemon juice (color not taste). This is typical for most hefes so nothing major to report here.

The taste is very full but almost overpowered by hops. Carbonation is average and leaves a nice spike on your tounge but follows up a little more bitter than I would like in a hefe.

Overall, I like the beer however it isn't the best Weyerbacher has to offer. Additionally, there are a few other hefe's that I would purchase before this one in the future. Great company that knows how to brew, but this isn't their best work.
