Is it bad when my computer...

Okay, so I come home from work today and go to the computer. It is on but the screen is blank so I moved the mouse to get it going. It wouldn't do anything so I restarted it. It wouldn't go. It keps turning over and making funny noises but it won't catch. Oh wait, that's my car. Okay so on the screen I see that my computer decided to go on strike. I tried to revert back to last known good config. It pretends to think about it for a while and then says nah nah nah nah nah and tells me again it's not working. I tried the start windows normally option. It won't budge.
What the hell does this mean? The only real concern is that I have pics on that computer that I really don't want to lose. Can I just take the hard drive out and slave it to the other computer? Or, is there anything I can do to trick it into working? I already tried the hammer. That didn't work.
Also, on a different note. Can anyone recommend a good nat nanny? We have guests that I want to limit on the computer. I have a feeling that has something to do with the computer quitting.

assuming your using windows XP, try going into safe mode and if you get in it asks first if you want to use system restore, do that and restore your computer to the closest day you know it was working. this only removes programs installed not data so if you restore back to before the pics were ont he machine they will be still there.

even if your not using XP safe mode is a good starting place, you can at least move the pics off onto disk or something, also if you have another computer you can slave the drive onto it and move the files to the other computer.

Hit F8 to get into safe mode while booting...

If you can't get into safemode, I would guess some nasty spyware.

Try the HD in another puter as slave.
